Healthy Travel Snacks to Fuel Adventure

Raise your hand if you’ve ever been personally victimized by airport food. Not only is it not of the best quality, but it’s crazy expensive! And let’s not even get started on gas station food. Where are all the healthy options?! When you’re traveling, whether it be by plane or car, you need the right food to give you the boost of energy of you need to keep your mood up. Traveling is exhausting, and when you’re consuming processed junk food, your energy levels seriously decline.

So, how can you be sure to stick to your healthy regimen while trekking through new places and meeting new faces? Bring your own snacks! You’ll never have to worry about what you’re putting into your body and you most certainly won’t be wasting money on unsatisfying meals. If you have exciting adventures planned this upcoming year, pack some of these healthy travel snacks in order to keep you energized and ready to take on the world!

TRAIL MIX

Trail mixes are some of the best snacks out there! You can typically find some at any grocery or convenience store, but they are also super easy to make. Did you watch our video about our favorite antioxidant trail mix? All you have to do is grab some of your favorite nuts and fruits, mix them all together, and voilà! It’s such a simple travel snack, and it will fuel you with the energy you need to arrive at your final destination. Better yet, it doesn’t always have to be eaten alone! To satisfy your hunger even more, add trail mix as a topper to oatmeal, yogurt, etc.

SIMPLE SALADS

Salads are some of the quickest and easiest meals to make. And depending on what you include they can be very filling, successfully warding off any serious hunger until you reach your destination. Need a quick protein-filled recipe idea? Combine spinach, quinoa, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and avocado with a drizzle of extra virgin organic olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It’s incredibly easy to make and super refreshing! Make one big bowl and divvy it up between a few different travel-safe containers. Then, pack it all up into an insulated bag and you’re all set.

VEGGIE STICKS

Veggie sticks are always a great snack! And they’re great for travel because you can toss them all into one container and you’re good to go. When traveling, it’s hard to avoid seeing potato chips, corn nuts, and other crunchy treats. Oftentimes, this tricks your brain into craving something crunchy. Rather than reaching for a bag of chips, opt for veggie sticks! Carrots, celery, cucumber, radishes, bell peppers...these are all great snack options that allow you to satisfy that crunch you desire!

OATMEAL

Ever heard of overnight oats? If not, it may just become your new favorite discovery! And it’s absolutely perfect for travel because you can prepare it the night before and grab it as you head out the door. Simply combine oats, almond milk/coconut milk, chia seeds, honey, and cinnamon in a travel-safe container. Allow it to sit in the fridge overnight and it’s ready to go! Chop up some of your favorite fruits or pack up any other toppings you enjoy to include when you’re ready to eat. Cacao nibs, shredded coconut, goji berries, dried fruits...there are so many options! The more flavorful, the more satisfied you’ll be.

If cold oatmeal doesn’t sound appealing to you (don’t knock it till you try it!), you can always pack up a deconstructed version of your beloved breakfast and make it while you’re on the go. Although, you may not always have access to a quick and easy way to warm it up.

SMALL SEED BAR

Now, we might be a little biased, but we think Small Seed Bars are the ultimate snack to pack for any kind of travel. Whether it’s for business or for pleasure, a Small Seed Bar will give you the energy you need to carry on throughout the day. And the best part is there are 10 different flavors, so you’ll never get bored of eating the same thing! Packed full of protein and nutrients, you’ll never go hungry as long as you have a Small Seed Bar in your bag!

Here’s one final suggestion. Always, always, always make sure to stay hydrated. Carry a reusable water bottle with you wherever you go. Fill it up as often as possible; you just never know when your next chance to refill will be, so it’s better to be safe than sorry.

During travels, it’s far too easy to be tempted by unhealthy snacks. Those chips you walked by at the airport gift shop are calling your name. That greasy pizza you saw at the local gas station smelled soo good. And the candy- oh, the many options of candy! Don’t let those cravings defeat you! Now that you have a few ideas for quick, easy, and healthy travel snacks, your adventures are going to be that much better.
